Teamwork Really Does Make the Dream Work

Words of Wisdom from Boba Fett
It’s a quote from this week’s episode The Book of Boba Fett that got me thinking about teamwork. In this week’s episode Boba says “you can only get so far without a tribe”. I’ve started using the word tribe lately in my personal life. This quote got me thinking about my tribe from a professional perspective. We all have a tribe that we count on to help us go farther at home, at work and in life.
Teamwork
Many people have heard the phrase “Teamwork makes the dream work”, first attributed to John Maxwell.
Have you heard the rest of the quote?
The original quote was “Teamwork makes the dream work, but a vision becomes a nightmare when the leader has a big dream and a bad team”.
Think about that. You have a big vision. Do you have the team in place to support you and your vision?
While I am not sure I support the notion of a bad team, there are teams that are composed of people that are not the right fit. While there certainly are poor performers, more often there are people in roles that are not a right fit.
As a leader you are responsible for building a team of people that support the vision and mission of your organization, and are aligned with the organizations core values. If they are not aligned, and they are not supportive - they need to move on.
You don't want to only "get so far". You want to reach your goals, launch your vision, achieve your dreams. It all starts with people.
Your focus on vision without focus on your team is a recipe for disaster, or as John Maxwell put it ... a nightmare.
Ask Yourself
I am passionate about this from a personal and professional perspective. I have a group of people I consider my personal board of directors. They are my tribe. I seek advice from them. I respect their perspective. They consider my best interests. They are aligned with. my values. These statements should also describe your team as it relates to your organization.
Who’s in your tribe? Who's on your team? Are you surrounding yourself with people that have common goals and support you? Are you supporting those that include you in their tribe and on their team?
👍 I'm thankful for my tribe
👍 I’m excited at the opportunity to grow my tribe
👍 I’m honored when welcomed into a new tribe
